Self control practically means Think before you Act.
A person who is self aware is Realistic
and does a good self assessment.
Ready Set Work continued on the same provocative note which is now known to the student as its way of performance. And as usual, every student who is a delegate of the ready set work got to the halls with enough enthusiasm and were not disappointed.
In order to show that seriousness is very KEY in whatever we do or plan to do, some students who exhibited some traits of unseriousness with their absence at the first two classes of the Ready Set Work programme, were disqualified and students who had registered but were not chosen were invited to be part of the programme and this sent a signal to students that anything worth doing at all is worth doing well.
Anyways, this did not affect the Ready Set Work programme for the week as Self Awareness and Self Discovery was discussed and here, I am going to teach you what I have learnt (mind you, just for this session).
Students were asked to give different definition of what they understand by emotional intelligence (and this is pertinent to Ready Set Work...students don't just sit to absorb what they are being told...they also contribute...its more interactive than most class seasons) and lots of students came up with their own version of what they think the word means but the most important aspect is what makes up Emotional Intelligence.
- Self Awareness
- Self Regulation
- Motivation
- Empathy and
- Social Skills
Motivation - You want to do it
Extended Practice - Keep trying
Feedback - Ask people how you are doing.
Now in this 21st century, no one is actually ready to sit you down and start teaching you what is needed of you; what people are actually looking for in you is a readymade JackOfAllTrade - it does not matter whether you are an entrepreneur or an employee; therefore, you need some skills that will help you in any field you have chosen...
You have to know how to manage stress (mentally and physically)
You have to be able to improve you non-verbal communication skills in terms of posture, gesture, etc.
Be ready to make calculated eye contact (calculated in the sense that you have to know when to look straight into people's eyes and when not to)
You have to learn some internal coping strategies like learning what you can change and how you can change it. You have to let things go - you don't have to fight it...you can always come back to it and you also have to learn to accept whatever you get, be it success or downfall.
You can think back at what you have done, the result you got from what you've done, what you regret from what you've done and think of how you would react if faced with such situation again.
Meanwhile, one of the key components of the Ready Set Work programme is a Student Ambassador scheme. Ready Set Work Ambassadors will embody and advocate the values and objectives of the programme, serve as peer mentors, and gain invaluable leadership experience under the guidance of project staff.
On Saturday, 2nd of July 2016, 12 students who will serve as Student Ambassadors for the duration of the programme will be introduced to the Ready Set Work contingents.
Remember, Pessimism and Criticism are different ...Criticism is good for you to know where you are, what you should have done and what you can still do but for pessimism, nothing works...do not mistake pessimism for criticism.
