My name is Kuburat popularly called UP NEPA during my days in higher institution. I studied Mass Commutation but I'm now a young growing business lady

You were nicknamed 'Upnepa' in school, how did it start and how did you feel about it when it started?
(Laughs) It started during my ND 1 when a friend of mine named Joy called my name several times in a noisy class and I didn't hear her and she eventually said "ki lo n se Iwo omo up NEPA yi gan na, and I eventually looked at her, and ever since then, I’ve been called UP NEPA. At first, I didn't like the name at first and tried stopping people from calling me that but unfortunately for me, even some of my lecturers started calling me by the name and ever since then, I gat no choice than to stay calm and accept it.

You studied Mass Communication, how did you venture into business?
Wow! What an interesting question. Mass Communication isn't just about journalism like many people think. I started business at a tender age but my study gave me more knowledge on how to handle it better.

So, what do you buy and sell specifically and where do you buy from?
At the moment I buy and sell unisex wears but planning on investing on more businesses soon. I buy my goods from a friend whose father places his order directly from a company abroad. Basically I sell luxury fashion brands.

Why business (buying and selling specifically)?
I chose business because I believe in investment which attracts profit. I don't like white collar job because I can't budget on monthly salary which may not even be paid at the end of the month. Buying and selling is the business I cherish the most because actualizing your profit at the end of it all, even if it’s a little profit, but sometimes there can be a huge profit also.

What challenges do you face in the course of your business and how do you tackle them?
I face challenges in the financial aspect and also in trying to convince some customers on the quality and price of the goods.

Miss Kuburat Raheem

I was able to tackle the financial aspect with the help of my parents. And that of my customers are tackled with the great knowledge from my study. But all the glory goes to Almighty God.

Being a successful and famous business lady

Working hard on my dreams of growing my business in order to become the successful and famous business lady that I want to become.

And where do you see yourself in the next five years?
5 years to this time I would have achieved my goal of becoming a famous and successful business woman. "Woman" because I would have been married with kids by then.

Yes. My own philosophy. Aim high and work hard to achieve your goals

Who inspires you and why?
Being the only child from my mum to my dad alone is a challenge to me. My mum always says "remember who you are". I got inspired by my mum because she was an independent and strong woman before she  died. Her death made me stronger and her prayers along with her words of advice keeps me moving higher.

This question of yours brought tears to my eyes because it made me remember my mum and thanks once again because it also made me remember her words. Am working towards being a strong and independent woman like my mum.

Thanks a lot for your questions, they are all motivating ....they make me remember who I am and what I should be aiming at.

I'm sorry about your mum
Thanks.

What is your advice to people out there that wants to go into buying and selling business?
Don't just rush into business because you see that people are successful in it. Try and study yourself and have a positive believe in yourself that you can do it. You will face many challenges but "Don't Quit", because the word ‘don't quit’ have kept me going.

If you have a strong believe in yourself and love what you do, then work hard to achieve your goal.

But in anything you do " Put God first ".

Thank you very much for your time
You are welcome.
